Pic of Dr. NorsDr. Norsworthy

Dr. Gary D. Norsworthy earned his DVM degree in 1972 from Texas A&M University and has been practicing veterinary medicine for over 30 years. Dr. Norsworthy began writing and lecturing in 1975 and since has published over 30 articles in various veterinary journals. Out of 200 speakers, he was chosen "Speaker of the Year" at the 1998 North American Veterinary Conference in two categories: Small Animal and Technician.

Dr. Norsworthy is the editor and major author of Feline Practice, a textbook for veterinarians, which was published in 1993 by Lippincott. His second book, The Feline Patient: Essentials of Diagnosis and Treatment, was published by Williams and Wilkins in 1998. He is a co-author for two feline continuing education programs on compact disk for Lifelearn V, Inc. His third book, the second edition of The Feline Patient, was published in 2002. Recently, Dr. Norsworthy completed the third edition of The Feline Patient. He is the only veterinarian in private practice to ever write four feline textbooks.

Because of his contributions to veterinary medicine Dr. Norsworthy was chosen as the 1992 Companion Animal Practitioner of the Year by the Texas Veterinary Medical Association and 1997 Outstanding Alumnus of the College of Veterinary Medicine of Texas A&M University. He received the 1998 Clinical Consultation and Referral Award from the Texas Academy of Veterinary Practice and the 1998 Diplomate Achievement Award from the American Board of Veterinary
Practicioners (ABVP). He is a Charter Diplomate of the Feline Practice Category of the ABVP.

Dr. Norsworthy is very lucky to have most of his family here in the San Antonio area. His son, John, and daughter-in-law, Sara, are away in Seattle but his wife, Linda, daughter, Melissa, and son-in-law, Greg come by the clinic occasionally. It is especially a treat when they bring his grandsons, Hayden and Garrett. Dr. Norsworthy has an affinity for black cats. He owns one black cat, Gringo, and one grey cat, Laptop.

Dr. Catherine Sproull is a graduate of Texas A&M University. While attending veterinary school, she was a member of numerous professional student organizations. For three years, she was an officer of the Feline Medicine Club and the Animal Behavior Society. Her special focus in school was feline medicine and behavior.

Dr. Sproull grew up in Houston always knowing she wanted to be a 'cat doctor.' She has lived with many cats over the years and dearly loves their independent, curious nature. Currently, she has two cats: Angel (the acrobat) and Athena (the princess). Angel is the adventurous one always found in high places or getting into trouble. Athena is the dainty one ready to greet everyone with her happy chirping.

Dr. Sproull also enjoys outdoor activities, dancing, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. Now that she is in an all feline environment, she finally feels at home. She loves being around cats and looks forward to meeting you and your special feline friend!

Administration

Laura Dietrich is the Practice Manager. Laura worked as a receptionist and then head receptionist before her current position opened up. To her parent's dismay, Laura is a cat convert, who went from a "dog person" to a "cat person" through her 4 years of employment with us. She keeps us organized and is full of great new ideas. Laura is always coming up with new and better ways to serve our clients, and she is always happy to help with any questions you may have. She and her husband, Matt, have one cat at home, Chicky, an adorable playful calico.

Linda Schmeltzer is a RVT which stands for Registered Veterinary Technician. This title designates that she has gone to a two year program to learn about veterinary nursing, has taken and passed a national board test, and is keeping her education current by attending seminars to keep her license active. Linda is our head technician, also. She trains our technical staff, keeps up with the ordering of our supplies, and generally quarterbacks our technician team. She has worked with Dr. Norsworthy for many years and knows how to keep us running smooth! She and her husband, have a daughter and two cats, Chisai and Wicket to keep them busy.

Stephanie

Stephanie Heymann, began at Alamo Feline Health Center as a participant in the MacArthur Health Occupations Students of America program. She started out caring for boarders and hospitalized patients through the summer, and, once school started, she began assisting in exam rooms. Then, she began helping out during surgery and procedures. Stephanie now is one of the star employees of our technical team. She has been with us for so long that she knows where everything is when we can't find it! Stephanie has two cats, Sheba and Sugar.

Amber Coker may be one of the smallest members of our staff; however, she plays a major role in the function of the clinic. She is one of the people you'll see with Dr. Norsworthy. She is considered Dr. Norsworthy's right hand woman and/or partner in crime. Amber assist Dr. Norsworthy in exam rooms and in surgery. She has been with him long enough that she anticipates his next move and really helps him be efficient. She attends college here in San Antonio and is pursuing a career in the medical field. She loves cats and owns two of them: Samantha and Samuel.

Veronica Ceballos does many different things with her time here at Alamo Feline Health Center. Her primary concern is watching over and advocating for our boarding patients. She rules the roost upstairs! She has also spent some time with the rest of our technicians downstairs learning more of the medical part of our business. Veronica does such a great job with all of our cats in any situation: boarding or exam visits!

Stacey Rawlinson is a RVT which stands for Registered Veterinary Technician. This title designates that she has gone to a two year program to learn about veterinary nursing, has taken and passed a national board test, and is keeping her education current by attending seminars to keep her license active. Stacey is sweet and kind. Her tenderness towards our patients is a blessing to our practice. She brings with her alot of years of experience and knowledge.

Phone Ringing Receptionists

Rae Hart loves cats and Alamo Feline Health Center is the purrfect place for her to work as a receptionist and enjoy all the beautiful kitties! She enjoys helping clients and assisting everyone involved in the daily routine at the center. Everyday is a learning experience and her positive and caring attitude is appreciated. Rae has even learned how to help our technicians by running lab tests when they are very busy. She and her husband have two persians: Samson and Mooshie and a black cat named Hal.

Amanda Rodriguez is one of our receptionists and a wonderful asset to Alamo Feline Helath Center. You can catch her answering the phone, checking clients in and out, and assisting where any additonal help is needed. She has become very used to being called into the ultrasound room to assist with the occasional ecocardiogram! She loves our clinic kitty, Onyx, and every morning gives him his daily treat up front. She and her husband house one dog, Daisy, and two cats, Scarlett (the feral one, hehe!) and Coco (the peacemaker).

Joanna Kerr is our newest receptionist and she is a great addition to our team. Joanna has learned everything there is to learn up front so fast you will hardly believe she is the newest one! She is always ready to help when help is needed and doesn't hesitate to spoil her favorite clinic kitty Buster. She doesn't have any kitties at home so she spoils all the cats she meets here. She and her husband have a sweet dog named Babe to try to make up for the lack of cat in her house.

Isis on stoolIsis

Isis has been with us the longest of our troop of little helpers. She is a 9 year old, very regal, orange and black tabby domestic shorthair. Isis enjoys a little bit of mischeif now and then, warming herself on top of computers and sitting in empty boxes. She loves to be petted when she asks for it but does tend to give "love bites" when she decides she has had enough loving. Isis is a very special cat because she has a blood type that many pure-breed cats have, and is therefore very valuable as a blood donor. Isis favorite toys are large zip ties and cat-nip knots.

Buster is a 7 year old orange and white domestic shorthair. Buster can often be found sitting in a chair in Laura's office or munching out of his food bowl in the hall. Buster has a tiny meow that he uses to let everyone know that it is time he was given some attention. He especialy enjoys scratches on the underside of his neck. Buster is a very private kitty who will immediately stop playing with a toy if he feels he is being watched. (Heaven forbid we ever see him do something foolish!) His favorite toys are purple mice and cat-nip knots. His favorite past time is eating (in case you couldn't tell) and asking to be let in and out the back door.

Onyx is a 2 year old black domestic shorthair. Onyx is the most stand-offish of our cats. Onyx really likes playing outside in the bushes and pretend he is a black panther in the jungle. Occasionally, he decides to bring us back gifts from the hunt--especially little lizards. He likes to spend most of the day outside but he does like to enjoy naps on the bench out front when he has exhausted himself. Onyx rarely plays with toys but does have a particular catnip knot which he likes to lick until it is sopping wet. Yuk!
